Designing a Two-Sided Marketplace

Company: Creative Channel Services
Project: MobJob
My Role: Lead Designer
Team: Adam Nelson (Product), Sam Kolb (Technical Lead), Vida Roozen (VP Field Marketing)

Working with a tiger team from Creative Channel Services, we designed & launched MobJob, a two-sided marketplace app for matching field researchers with market research projects.

One side of the marketplace consisted of market research managers from the Client side - imagine Beats by Dre, Coca-Cola, or Nintendo. The Client side market research managers want to make sure that their products are being presented correctly at retailers across the nation, for example. Using MobJob, these managers could set up tasks such as, "Go to Best Buy, find the Beats by Dre installation, and verify that it meets the contractual requirements of the client." They could then find freelance market researchers to accomplish each task across the country. We provided a web-based dashboard to let the Clients set up the tasks, find the researchers, and collect & analyze the results.

The other side of the marketplace consisted of gig workers willing to complete these quick-and-dirty market research tasks. For them, we designed an iOS app much like the Lyft or Uber driver app - based around a map UI showing the tasks that needed to be completed in a specific geographic area. Just like Lyft drivers, they could pick up a nearby task, and earn a few dollars by following the instructions to input the data requested by the Client.
